Green Tech High Eagles Basketball in Albany, NY

Basketball at Green Tech High Charter School is one of the proudest traditions in Albany high school athletics. Every winter, our young men pull on the green and white to compete across New York State, representing a school built on integrity, initiative, and intellect — the same standards that guide our classrooms guide our locker room.

The program carries both a varsity and a junior varsity roster, which means a ninth grader picking up organized basketball for the first time and a senior chasing a college roster spot both have somewhere to grow. Practices are structured around fundamentals: ball security, defensive stance, transition spacing, and shot selection. Games are where those reps get tested against some of the toughest competition in the Capital Region.

What sets Eagles basketball apart is not just the wins — it is the expectation that every player is known by name, held accountable in the classroom, and prepared for what comes after high school. Our athletes learn that the discipline required to close out a defender is the same discipline required to close out a semester.

A Rich History of Excellence

2024 NYSPHSAA Champions

A full season of early practices, film sessions, and road games ended with Green Tech High lifting the NYSPHSAA state championship banner at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls. It is a moment this program will point to for years — proof of what young men from Albany can do when they commit to a standard together.

That championship belongs to the whole school community: the coaching staff, the teachers who kept players eligible, and the families who filled the bleachers all winter long.

Coaching Moments

Every Timeout Is a Teaching Moment

Games are won in the huddle. Our coaching staff uses every stoppage to adjust coverages, settle the group, and hold players to the same standard they practice all week — communicate, compete, and take care of the ball.

It is the same brotherhood that shows up in the classroom: listening, adjusting, and trusting the man next to you.

Awards

Green Tech basketball competes as a NYSPHSAA member program, and our banners reflect years of work by players, coaches, and families who showed up when nobody was watching.

What Green Tech Basketball Players Build

A season with the Eagles develops far more than a jump shot. Here is what every player works on from the first day of try-outs to the last game of the winter.

Skill Development

Ball-handling, shooting mechanics, footwork, and finishing at the rim are drilled every practice so each player leaves the season a better basketball player than he started.

Conditioning & Strength

Winter basketball demands endurance. Athletes build the speed, lateral quickness, and stamina to compete for four full quarters against NYSPHSAA opponents.

Basketball IQ

Film, scouting, and situational work teach players to read defenses, run sets under pressure, and make the right decision when the game gets fast.

Leadership & Accountability

Upperclassmen mentor younger teammates, captains set the tone in the locker room, and every athlete is held to the same standard on and off the court.

Academics First

Eligibility is checked alongside team participation. Practice does not replace class — it reinforces the habits that carry our young men to graduation and college.

Brotherhood

The bond built through early mornings, road trips, and hard losses is what our players carry long after their last high school game.

On the Court

Home games in the Green Tech gym are loud, fast, and packed with families — one of the best atmospheres in Albany high school basketball.

Built on the Court

Green Tech Eagles basketball builds leaders on the court through discipline, teamwork, and hard work. Our winter program carries both a varsity and a JV roster so every young man has a place to develop his game.

Home and away games are updated weekly on the athletics schedule, and academic eligibility is checked alongside team participation. Coaches communicate directly with teachers, so a player who slips in the classroom gets support before he ever loses minutes on the floor.

Families are part of the program. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend games, meet the coaching staff, and stay connected with their son's academic progress throughout the season.

Basketball Coaching Staff

The Eagles basketball program is led by experienced coaches who develop players on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
