Barbering at Green Tech High Charter School
Green Tech's barber classes are not a hobby club — they are a working barbershop inside our Albany campus. Professional chairs, stations, mirrors, and mannequin heads give students the same environment they will step into on their first day behind a real chair, and the same standards a shop owner would expect from them.
Young men come into the program at every level. Some have been cutting their cousins' hair in a kitchen since middle school; others have never held clippers. Both leave with technique they can name, explain, and repeat — fades, tapers, line-ups, beard shaping, and the sanitation habits that keep a shop licensed and a client safe.
The barbershop is also one of the most honest rooms in the building. Conversation flows, mentorship happens naturally, and students practice the professionalism — eye contact, a clear consultation, respect for the person in the chair — that carries into every career.

A Professional Space, Built for Practice
Multiple full barber stations mean students are working, not watching. Each chair has its own mirror and station so instruction can move from student to student while the rest of the class keeps putting in reps on mannequin heads.
Working in a shop-style room teaches more than technique. Students learn to keep a clean station, manage their own tools, respect other barbers' space, and carry themselves the way a professional does when a paying client walks through the door.
